Anyways now for actually talking about this swell gun. I said I would, so here goes. I love your redesign idea, it looks so awesome and yes, you ARE quite talented with designing futuristic guns. I'm not sure I'll use the folding rails and grip idea in the final design, but on the whole I like how you've improved on the basic PK5 design. After looking both your design and my design over, I actually prefer the location of the circular thing to be on the main part of the gun, as opposed to on the mag like how it is on mine. You've made other points of the design look sleeker and more defined than mine, though I can't quite put my finger on any one in particular. But congrats, you've taken one of my favorite gun designs I've developed, and made it 20% cooler.
Now I WILL say that I don't really plan on replacing my PK5 design with this design, however about a week ago I had an amazing idea for Dash and Kai that changes everything. Basically, towards the second half of the story arc, they both get a major upgrade in armor and weapons (Kai first, then Dash,) their armor becoming full-face, full-body, powered armor and their new weapons being bigger swords and full-size rifles, rather than short blades and pistol/carbine-sized guns. I definitely want to use many design elements from the PKM-7S here for Dash's upgraded EPW gun, except the shots will still be subsonic energy projectiles, although the gun will now be full-auto rather than semi-auto, and mechanism-wise it will use combined traits from both the Kyrdan carbine and Dash's old PK5 pulse gun, enabling it to fire a more powerful shot. The only drawback of this gun is that it requires an immense amount of power that needs to be supplied from Dash's powered armor's backpack power cell, and it's so big and so heavy that Dash can only really fire it effectively when he's wearing his powered armor. Same goes for Kai and his upgraded weapons, hence the reason both heroes continue to use their old weapons in addition to their new ones.
Well what I was thinking with this is that you could maybe add it in as another gun entirely. [Insert "It's experimental!" bs card here.] And if you don't really want it to be hypersonic, you can just say the rails energize the round. Or maybe the main round is hypersonic, and it carries a subsonic contrail of plasma the goes in after it's punched a nice, big hole. Could say it's something you use for a few levels, because it's super awesome new crap, and you'll need it for a particular boss fight or something, and then "Oh, noes! I'z lost teh prototype awesummz!" so you go back to using other stuff until that upgrade you talked about comes along.
